Essaouira is situated in the western Atlantic coast of Morocco, in the region of Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz and is known by several nicknames such as "The Pearl of the Atlantic" and "Sleeping Beauty". His name is "beautifully drawn" from the Arabic word Souirah. This World Heritage Site, retains the charm and authenticity of a land lost in time. This is where the Mediterranean ends: the last walled fortification on the Atlantic shores, whose houses seem cloned with the "white villages" of Andalusia. In the center of the village are several shops run by berebers and filled many souvenirs, antiques, art, clothing and all a wide range of handmade objects. One of these stores is La Maison Touareg, which is near the souk, and it can find plenty of rugs for every budget. Botanically, this region also has some very remarkable peculiarities -and especially when located in a clump of desert court as the Anti Atlas- as the existence of residual forests of oaks, which, although highly degraded and very difficult regeneration survive in this region of the Anti Atlas, at above 1,500 m altitude, where they have better resisted grazing pressure, being this almost southern limit of its distribution in Morocco (although some clumps of similar characteristics are also found in the mountains near Sidi Ifni) .
