Just few kilometers from Tulamben is AMED, the Bali’s main east coast highway, a fairly small bay with a beach of black volcanic sand, crowded with dozen of colorful jukung ( traditional Balinese boat), local outrigger fishing canoes powered by small outboards. The reef of Amed is great for all level of divers. The dive sites are easy and relaxing. Divers can dive offer a short ” Jukung” ride or just off the beach. The underwater life so dense and gentle current offers a great number of nutrients to its crowds of fish and soft and hard coral. It’s an ideal for underwater naturalist and underwater photographers. Some area was badly affected by El Nino few years ago, particularly in the shallow areas, but recovery is progressing. Some big sponges are places of ” Laurela Siagiani” School of yellow Strip snapper are common. This place may serve as alternative sites of tulamben for beginner divers who need skill polish. There were many marine life such as Anthias, Butterfly fishes, Nudbranch, Frogfish and sometimes sharks and some big pelagic. The dive is generally relaxing.
