Fontevraud Abbey, symbol of power here in the abbey church, chose to be buried Plantagenet kings (Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Ricado Lionheart and Isabella of Angoulême). In Napoleon's time the abbey was transformed into prison and remained that way until 1963.
