Upon arrival in the city (1149), the Almohads decided to demolish the early Almoravid mosque under the pretext of poor orientation kibla (wall facing Mecca). The foundations of the first building can still be seen along the walls. Unfortunately, the entrance to the grounds is forbidden to non-Muslims.
