This theater which hosts the National Opera of Belgium, was raised in 1817 by architect Joseph Poelaert on the ashes of the Hôtel des Monnaies who had suffered a fire years before. It was built under a mixture of styles neo-baroque, rococo and neo neo-Renaissance. The auditorium was lit by huge crystal chandelier still hangs in the center of the domed ceiling. It is made of gilded bronze and Venetian glass.
